Kama Aina is a traveller. A composer infected with the wanderlust, one could also say: a global islander. Because Kama Aina's real name is Takuji Aoyagi and he was born in Tokyo, Japan. From Okinawa, his current island, he is always drawn back to the world, to other islands, to discover new sounds. He discovered them in places like Hawaii or Bali and processed them on albums like "Club Kama Aina". Kama Aina is Hawaiian and means "native" or "island man".

But as a person and musician, Kama Aina is not an island. Which is why he doesn't just look for sounds, but for contact with like-minded people. After Hawaii, he has now also found them in Bavaria. That means, strictly speaking, Munich's Hochzeitskapelle has discovered him. Because Markus and Micha Acher, Mathias Götz, Alex Haas and Evi Keglmaier are also proven sound researchers known from The Notwist, Le Millipede or Mrs. Zwirbl. As Hochzeitskapelle they play cover songs, which they usually perform in Rumpeljazz style in bars, in the park or on the street.

Kama Aina's "Wedding Song" is part of their repertoire. For Markus Acher, it is a "madly beautiful piece" that exudes a special magic. They wanted more of this magic and asked Kama Aina to write new magic pieces for them. The result is now available as "Wayfaring Suite". An album with ten playful, minimalist instrumental pieces. Ten little islands, which are nevertheless full of richness. And which the wedding musicians, who are not at all rumbling here, approach with humility and sharpened senses under the spell(s) of Kama Aina. Time to go on a journey of discovery!

It begins with a gentle chime, then a plucked viola sets in, an accordion blows a repetitive chord as if blown by the wind. And when the trombone plays its sustained minor tones, you are already in the middle of the journey. The sails are set, and with Kama Aina and Hochzeitskapelle on the instruments, anything can happen from now on.

What is that? A guitar that sounds from the island over there? Now a trumpet, a marching snare. This could be a welcoming committee. Although, now it sounds like a funeral march, which we listen to respectfully. Then a plucked banjo. New Orleans? No, with lively guitar sounds it seems more Hawaiian now. And we are already on the road again.

With majestic trombone sounds we cross the sea. The double bass, it hums gently from the depths. The viola, it flies high up and checks the situation for us. A toy piano swings up and down in the waves, and so it goes from island to island, where a xylophone, a singing saw is waiting for us. Until we return, filled with sounds.

Ich habe "Vertigo Days" kurz nach Erscheinen ein mal gehört, gemocht und erst einmal leider vergessen. Heute beim Überfliegen meiner Notizen bin ich wieder daraufgestoßen und habe bemerkt, WIE gut das eigentlich ist. Am schönsten finde ich das "Into Love"-Pattern zu Anfang und Ende. mr_modern_music

Can't name a favorite song. The whole album is outstanding. Every song evolves, changes, has elements of deconstruction and reconstruction. It's just a pleasure listening from the beginning to the final end of the concert. Lucky UT Connewitz visitors! miriamblaylock
